The 8 Best Best Blogging Platforms – Which is Right for You?

What are the best blogging platforms to make money from and grow an audience on? You have a lot of options from website builders to your own self hosted site using WordPress and the # recommended web host ➡ Bluehost:

No one blogging platform is best for all use cases. As such, I always try to create a variety of tutorials using different website builders and platforms. The essential aspect when choosing a blogging platform is what do you want to accomplish?

My personal blogger blog is a lot of fun. For that style of content, blogger is perfect. Casual updates, write when I want and make a bit of money from blogging. But if I was serious about creating a helpful blog that could grow into a sellable asset, I would use Bluehost and WordPress.

Last, website builders like Squarespace and Wix are not a bad choice. They are a bit more expensive, but provide an all in one experience that makes creating a blog that leverages content marketing easy.

► Ready to start your own self hosted blog? I suggest you use Bluehost, the #1 recommended web host by WordPress ➡

► Ghost is a free open source CMS like WordPress, but strictly focused on email marketing and paid subscription revenue ➡

► Blogger is a good choice for casual personal blogs. Not ideal for commercial purposes, but ideal if you want something cost effective ➡

  1. It’s not about the money for me. I want to Write down some thought about me, life, my mind and share it some where so i can get some other peoples thoughts and ideas too… So where do you think is best for that kinda staff??

  2. superb rundown + comparison of the many blogging options 👌🏽 you mentioned that blogger + tumblr don’t rank as well as the other independently hosted sites/blogs, so would that exclude them [tumblr in particular] from all the ‘make $500 — $10,000 a month blogging’ claims you see littered on youtube? might it still be possible to achieve or does the lack of ranking make it a near impossibility?

  3. Can you please tell me which blogging platform you would recommend for me based on this specific criteria? I’m not looking to make money out of blogging. I’m just looking to share ideas, and I want other people to be able to find them. I need a blogging platform that meets this criteria:

    1) It’s free.

    2) It’s good for sharing a list of things. For example, I want to create a blogging article about my favorite movies on a specific genre that I recommend other people to also watch.

    3) Allows me to save my article as a draft until I’m ready to post it.

    4) Lets me edit the article after I posted it. For example, I might want to add another movie to the list later on.

    5) It can be found more easily on Google search results.

I would appreciate some guidance on this. Thank you 🙏🏻

  4. I no used Blogger a decade plus ago and it doesn’t feel like they’ve invested or updated much since then – am I missing anything? Loved the video! Subscribed.

  5. Hi David, I am looking for a simple way to share photos of my children/grandchildren with my parents who are not on Facebook (or any social media). Can you recommend some kind of app or website that I can post regularly to and only certain people have access to? I thought Blogger might fit this bill, but you mentioned having to buy a web domain etc. Any/all suggestions from others are welcome!

  6. Does Medium have good enough SEO?
Will the blogs show up on Google Search?
Can readers who find the blog posts hosted on Medium read freely as many posts from you as they want?

  7. I appreciate your 30,000 ft overview of blogging platforms. We want to move three successful blogs of 10+ years off WordPress to a platform that better allows us to sell premium content.

It would be wonderful if you did a YouTube series that specifically addresses how platforms handle premium content.

BTW, you say, "etcetera" often, but you mispronounce it. It's not "ex-cetera". 🙂

  8. Thank you so much for taking your time to make this video. In starting my own blogging website I found myself with a lot of questions. One of them being which direction to go in choosing to make my blogging website. You did such a good comparison review that I now know which option is for me. Helping others to me is what life is all about. Thank you for being one of those kind souls that didn't just make video…you took the time to make sure what you said you was giving information on was exactly what you gave information on. Hats off to you!!! So glad the Lord lead me to you!!! You helped this old girl a great deal. Looking forward to seeing more of your material. God Bless You!!!

  9. On wix, is there some sort of feature which lets other people sign into your website…like make their accounts and have their page in your website….like instagram has

  11. Hey David can you please suggest something similar to Tumblr? From your video you said blogger is close to it I just love art and photography from food to decor to people and portraits any suggestions would be appreciated thank you

  12. Wix has always been very laggy and lots of technical issues, and now my premium plan has no monthly pay option. Their premium is $216 for the year plus $25 yearly for the domain. Only can pay for yearly, two or three years. I found WordPress to be very difficult and not simple for first time users. I'm looking into Weebly or Zyro.

  13. Hi David. I'm planning for starting a travel blog with open forum option. Pl suggest which will be a better option in terms of software. Although I'm not in plan to make any business but I'm interested in SEO and other analytics features related with blogging software.
