On Friday, officials of the Vigilance Bureau (State Vigilance Team) questioned the former Chief Minister for seven hours. Channi termed the ongoing investigation in the case as ‘purely political’. Stepping out of the Mohali office of the Vigilance Bureau in the evening, Channi again hit out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, alleging that “the government is behaving worse than the Mughals”. Want to humiliate and defame in every way. I stand by what I said in the morning press conference. They can do whatever they want to do.
Questioning of former Chief Minister Channi for seven hours
The former chief minister said, “I have always worked with integrity and will continue to do so.” Before going to the bureau’s Mohali office at around 11 a.m., Congress leader Channi slammed the state government and claimed that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann The government is doing ‘politics of revenge’. The Vigilance Bureau had earlier asked Channi to appear for questioning on April 12, but the bureau accepted the request for a different date and asked him to appear at its Mohali office on April 20. Later the bureau decided to summon Channi on 14 April.
Assets case disproportionate to known source of income
The bureau is probing the allegations against Channi in the disproportionate assets case. Last month, the bureau had issued a ‘lookout circular’ against the former chief minister. Before entering the bureau office, Channi dismissed allegations of amassing wealth disproportionate to known sources and said, “The investigation is purely political. Let them do what they want to do.” Attacking the AAP-led government at a press conference, he said, “They can arrest me, torture me. They can even kill me, but I am ready.
“If even a single person says that Channi is involved in corruption, hang me,” the former chief minister said with tears in his eyes. Channi said he raised several issues ahead of the Lok Sabha bypoll in Jalandhar. He alleged that the AAP government was scared of the issues raised by him, including issues related to Dalits, ‘what the chief minister said about the Akal Takht Jathedar’, justice in sacrilege cases and farmers’ issues. The former chief minister alleged, “And when someone speaks the truth, it stings the one who is a liar.” This is what has happened with the AAP government.
