Why did Baba Saheb Ambedkar leave Hinduism and adopt Buddhism, the reason is very special

Ambedkar Jayanti 2023: On April 14, 2023, the 132nd birth anniversary of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ramaji Ambedkar, the father of the Indian Constitution, will be celebrated. He fought a long battle to empower the weak, laborers and women in the society and dedicated his whole life to give the lower class the right to equality. It is said that Bhimrao Ambedkar, born in a lower caste, faced discrimination since childhood. He wanted to end the caste system of the society. A time came when Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar left Hinduism and adopted Buddhism, why did he do this? There is a big reason behind this. Let’s know.

Why did Ambedkar leave Hinduism? (Bhimrao Ambedkar Conversion to Buddhism)

Ambedkar, who had suffered the brunt of the caste system since childhood, made a declaration on 13 October 1935. In which he said that he has decided to leave Hinduism. Ambedkar said, I like the religion which teaches liberty, equality and fraternity, because three things are needed for the development of an individual which are compassion, equality and liberty. Religion is for man and not man for religion. According to him, due to the caste system, there was a lack of all these three in Hinduism. In such a situation, on October 14, 1956, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar along with his 3.65 lakh supporters left Hinduism and adopted Buddhism.

This is the main reason for Baba Saheb’s adoption of Buddhism

Ambedkar even fought a legal battle with the social to end the varna system prevalent in Hinduism, but when all his efforts failed, he felt that the evils of caste system and untouchability in Hinduism could not be removed. Baba Saheb had said in his speech that if you want respectable life and equal rights, you have to help yourself, for this religion change is the only way. His words were that “I was born as a Hindu, but will not die as a Hindu, at least it is in my control”.

Baba Saheb believed behind adopting Buddhism that Buddhism provides wisdom, compassion and gives the message of equality. Due to these three man can live a good and respectable life.
