Major agricultural scientists of G20 will gather in Varanasi, which is called Sangamnagari of Uttar Pradesh. Agriculture development in India, technology and how agriculture sector can be promoted in the world. This will be discussed. The Indian Council of Agricultural Research itself wants to capitalize on this meeting in the agriculture sector.

Meeting will be held in Varanasi from 17 to 19 April

Leading agricultural scientists of G20 countries will be in Varanasi on April 17-19. The meeting will discuss the development of sustainable and profitable agri-food systems. How the agriculture sector can be made prosperous with science-based technology. This will also be discussed. There will be an emphasis on shared steps towards solutions. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education and Director General, ICAR said that the meeting will be helpful in promoting joint action to deliver science-based solutions to achieve sustainable, climate-resilient and profitable agri-food systems.

Increase in food production up to 70 times

Director General Himanshu Pathak told that India’s agriculture sector is unique, diverse and vast. More than half of the population earns their living from agriculture. This is what earns income from. He told that during the last 75 years, the country has recovered from the status of importer and has reached the status of being a self-sufficient and food exporting country. Now India is supplying food grains to foreign countries. Food production has increased 6 to 70 times since the year 1950. The net cultivated area has increased only by 1.3 times. Pathak said that the purpose of the meeting is to discuss, deliberate and exchange knowledge, science and technologies for food and nutrition security and strengthen cooperation among G-20 countries.
