Mamata Banerjee On Atiq Ahmed Murder: West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee attacked the UP government on the murder of Atiq Ahmed and his brother. He said on Sunday (April 16) that I am shocked by the anarchy and complete breakdown of law and order in Uttar Pradesh. It is shameful that criminals are now taking the law into their own hands without worrying about the presence of the police (UP Police) and the media. Such illegal acts have no place in our constitutional democracy.
Gangster Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf were shot dead in the custody of the Uttar Pradesh Police late on Saturday (April 15) while being taken for medical examination. Three people have been arrested regarding this murder. Two days before the killing of Ateeq and his brother, Ateeq’s son Asad was also killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Police in Jhansi.
Strong attack on BJP by opposition leaders
Opposition leaders have strongly attacked the BJP government after former MP Atiq Ahmed and his former MLA brother Ashraf were shot dead in public. Apart from Mamta Banerjee, many other TMC leaders have also criticized the Yogi government. TMC MP Mahua Moitra said that the country has been turned into a mafia raj.
I am shocked by the brazen anarchy and total collapse of law & order in Uttar Pradesh.
It is shameful that perpetrators are now taking the law into their own hands, unfazed by the police and media presence.
Such illegal acts have no place in our constitutional democracy.

“India has been made a mafia republic”
He said that BJP has made India a mafia republic. I will say it here, I will say it abroad, I will say it everywhere because it is true. Two people were shot dead in custody in the presence of a large number of policemen and in front of cameras. This is the death of the rule of law.
There should be an investigation under the supervision of the Supreme Court
All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi targeted the ruling BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over the murder and demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. He also requested for an inquiry into the matter under the supervision of the Supreme Court. Owaisi alleged that BJP is running the government in Uttar Pradesh not on the basis of law, but on the basis of gun.
