Shreyas Iyer-Rajat Patidar will be treated in UK, BCCI will bear all the expenses

Shreyas Iyer-Rajat Patidar Injury: Injured batsman Rajat Patidar of IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore will undergo his treatment in England. At the same time, Team India batsman and Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer is also going to United Kingdom (UK) for his back surgery. This was confirmed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Saturday. Both these players could not play a single match in IPL 2023 and were ruled out from the beginning of the tournament.

Board will bear the cost

According to a senior BCCI official, ‘The entire cost of Rajat Patidar’s left heel surgery will be borne by the board itself. Due to this injury, he was completely ruled out of IPL 2023. The BCCI official further said, ‘The board will send Patidar for surgery. Although he is not a centrally contracted player. But he is a targeted player. We want them to get better treatment. Rajat Patidar came into the limelight in IPL 2022 by playing a brilliant century in the playoff match for RCB. After this, he also performed well in domestic cricket. Patidar was undergoing rehab at NCS before the decision was taken to send him for surgery.

Iyer’s operation will be next week

During this, the BCCI said that Shreyas Iyer will have an operation next week. The Board of Control for Cricket in India said in a statement, ‘Shreyas Iyer has to undergo surgery on his lower back next week. He will be under the supervision of a surgeon for two weeks and will then return to the National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru, for rehab. Shreyas Iyer was injured during the Test series against Australia. After which he could not play in the limited overs series against the Kangaroo team. Earlier, he had ignored the advice of BCCI and NCA to undergo surgery. He believed that if he underwent the surgery, he would be ruled out of the 50-over World Cup, including the final of the ICC World Test Championship. Because it will take 5-6 months to recover completely from back injury.
