IN A FIRST of its kind, the Income Tax Department has launched a mobile app, called, ‘AIS for Taxpayer’ to help taxpayers view their information as available in the Annual Information Statement (AIS) / Taxpayer Information Summary (TIS).

‘AIS for Taxpayer’ is a free mobile application provided by the Income Tax Department. The app is available both on Google Play and App Store. The application is aimed to provide taxpayers with a comprehensive view of the AIS/TIS, displaying information collected from different sources related to the taxpayer.

Taxpayers can use the mobile app to view their information related to TDS/TCS, interest, dividends, share transactions, tax payments, Income Tax refunds, and Other Information (GST Data, Foreign Remittances, etc.) as available in AIS/TIS.

How to access the mobile app, ‘AIS for Taxpayer’?

To access this mobile app, the taxpayer has to register on the app by providing a PAN number, authenticate with the OTP sent on the mobile number and e-mail registered on the e-filing portal. After the authentication, the taxpayer can set a 4-digit PIN to access the mobile app.

What can be viewed in the ‘AIS for Taxpayer’ mobile app?

The mobile app allows taxpayers to access information from AIS or TIS available on TDS/TCS, tax payments, interest, dividends, share transactions, income tax refunds, and other information (GST Data, Foreign Remittances, etc.). Besides, the taxpayer has the option to give feedback on the data displayed by the app.

Steps to register and set MPIN for AIS in mobile:

A taxpayer should be registered on the e-filing portal in order to register on AIS mobile app.

Step 1: Download the ‘AIS for Taxpayer’ from google play/play store

Step 2: Onboarding screens will be visible. From here user can scroll through by tapping “Next” or skip the screens by tapping “Skip”.

Step 3: Click on “Get Started” available on the last onboarding screen.

Step 4: To start the verification process, enter your PAN, and the date of your birth/incorporation/formation, and check the box next to the terms and conditions.

Step 5: Submit your primary mobile number and your primary email address (same as per the e-filing portal).

Step 6: A pop-up will appear. Click on “Confirm” to see the next screen. Separate OTPs will be shared on the primary mobile number and primary email address. Enter the OTPs received and click “Verify”.

Step 7: When both the OTPs you have entered are correct, the MPIN set-up page will open. Enter your 4-digit MPIN and then click “Next.”

(Note: Users are permitted only 5 attempts to correctly enter the OTPs received. If the user enters the wrong OTP till the permitted attempts, their account will be locked for 24 hours.)

Step 8: After re-entering the MPIN, click on the “Confirm” button to confirm the setup of the MPIN.

Step 9: On MPIN is successfully set, the user will be successfully registered, and the user can log in using the selected MPIN.
