Fiji Airways expands Australia network – Business Traveler

Australia’s capital, Canberra, is the latest destination to be added to Fiji Airways’ growing international network.

Fiji Airways will add twice-weekly Nadi-Canberra flights from July. These will operate on Tuesdays and Fridays. From October, the airline will add a third weekly rotation.

The oneworld connecting partner airline will deploy its Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft on the new Canberra flights.

Fiji Airways chief executive officer and managing director, Andre Viljoen, said that the airline has conducted extensive market research before deciding on this new service.

“As Fiji’s national airline, we are proud to be flying to the capital of Australia. This is a living testament to the strong relations that the two countries have always enjoyed and demonstrates the importance of Australia as our leading tourism market.

We are pleased to be able to provide the people of Canberra the only direct flights to Nadi, facilitating a seamless holiday experience which begins the moment they step onboard. As of July, your getaway to paradise will be a short four-hour journey away,” the airline chief added.

Fiji Airways’ services between Nadi and Canberra are times to facilitate convenient onward connections to North America, other South Pacific destinations and the Asia-Pacific.

Viljoen notes that the new service has been made possible with the upcoming addition of two new Airbus A350s widebody aircraft.

The additional A350 capacity will free up 737 Max aircraft currently deployed on its network.

“We will receive the first of our two new A350s in July, resulting in an immediate increase in capacity across our network. This means we will be able to dedicate more seats to the Australian market, specifically Canberra,” said Viljoen.

Fiji Airways currently operates a fleet of 12 aircraft, including A330, A350 and 737 Max units.

Its international network includes flights to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Singapore.
