14 people died due to heat wave in Maharashtra, BMC issued guidelines, read

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Guidelines: There is an outbreak of severe heat in the country in the month of April. In many states of the country, the temperature has crossed 36 degrees, due to which people are facing heat wave. Heat wave is being viewed seriously as it causes many physical problems. Heat stroke including heat stroke which can prove to be fatal at times.

So far 14 people have died due to sunstroke and heat stroke in Maharashtra. In such a situation, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued guidelines to avoid rising heat.

Let’s read what they are…

  • Drink enough water even if you are not thirsty.
  • Wear light-coloured, loose and cotton clothes. Use protective glasses, umbrella/hat, shoes or slippers while going out in the sun.
  • Keep water and onions with you during the journey.
  • Avoid alcohol, tea, coffee and carbonated soft drinks (cold drinks) as they dehydrate the body.
  • Avoid high protein food and do not eat stale food.
  • If you are working outside, use a hat or umbrella. If possible, cover the head and face with a big cotton cloth.
  • Use a damp cloth on your head, neck, face and limbs as well.
  • Do not leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
  • If you feel weak or sick, see a doctor immediately.
  • Drink homemade drinks like ORS, Lassi, Torani (rice water), lemon water, buttermilk, coconut water regularly. It helps in re-hydrating the body.
  • Keep your home cool, use curtains, shutters or sunshades and keep windows open at night.
  • Use fans, wet clothes and frequent cold water baths.

Tips for treating a person affected by heat stroke…

  • Keep the person in a cool place, in the shade. Wipe it off with a wet cloth/wash the body frequently. Pour normal temperature water on the head. The main thing is to reduce his body temperature.
  • Give the person to drink ‘ORS’ or drink lemon syrup/torani or whatever is useful to ‘rehydrate’ the body.
  • Immediately take the person to the nearest health center. Always keep in mind that heat stroke can be life-threatening and requires immediate hospitalization.
