The University of Surrey Finance Department is currently seeking an Assistant Studentships Management Accountant, on a fixed term contract, to join our Studentships Team.

The University currently funds c. 750 PGR students, with funding varying between Research Council grants, industry funding and internal University funding. The post-holder will work with the Studentship Management Accountant to ensure that an excellent service is provided to our funded students, external funders and our internal teams within the faculties and Doctoral College.

What are we looking for?

This is a great opportunity for a Finance Professional looking for a new challenge within the Higher-Education Sector.

The post-holder will be expected to work effectively alongside and report directly to the Studentship Management Accountant.

What will the role include?

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Allocation of funds to PGR students
  • Accurate recording of all transactions using the University Finance System (Agresso)
  • Prepare and provide accurate management information to help assist with the most cost-effective use of funding.
  • Prepare and provide accurate management information to help support Faculties and Doctoral College with financial planning and forecasting
  • Work effectively alongside Studentships Management Accountant to ensure the service provision to PGR students, the Doctoral College and the Faculties is maintained
  • Ensuring students are paid the correct amount of stipend, regularly and on time
  • Answering student/staff queries
  • Ensuring funds are received from a range of funders including, research councils, industry contacts, charities etc.
  • Reporting to all funders on spend
  • Monthly income release,
  • Monthly accrual journals,
  • Providing updates on spending and remaining budgets to individual students
  • Balance sheet reconciliations and producing forecasting reports.
  • In addition to the tasks above the team are driving the conversations around change-improvements to the process and systems, getting the involvement of all interested parties, including faculties, registry, doctoral college, and IT systems.
