Regional Connectivity UDAN Scheme: The Central Government has started the 5th phase of the regional connectivity scheme ‘Udaan’ to increase the connectivity facility in the remote areas of the country. The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) on Friday (21) started the process of inviting bids from airlines for different routes. According to the ministry, a distance of 600 kilometers will be set for this. Actually earlier this distance was 500 kms.

Now every common citizen of the country will fly!

Regarding the 5th phase of the scheme, Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that the ‘Udaan’ scheme has proved to be lifeline for many areas. He further said that this scheme has helped in connecting many places across the country. This new and robust version of the scheme will increase the speed, add new routes, and bring us closer to the target of operationalizing 1000 routes and 50 additional airports, heliports and water airports in the coming future. Now every common citizen of the country will fly!<

600 kilometer distance limit over
According to the tweet of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the 5th phase of UDAN will focus on Category-2 (20-80 seats) and Category-3 (more than 80 seats). The ministry said that for the first phase, the distance limit of 600 kilometers will be abolished. Along with this, no restriction will be imposed on the distance between the origin and destination of the flight.

However, under Viability Gap Funding (VGF), this limit will be 600 km for both priority and non-priority sectors. The ministry said that airlines will have to start operations within 4 months of being given the go-ahead, however, earlier this deadline was 6 months.
