The reason for resting Archer in the match against Gujarat was his recent surgery. Actually, Archer played in the first match of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023. During this match, there was some problem in his right elbow and then he had to undergo a minor surgery. He was absent in four matches after his debut for Mumbai Indians. During this he was undergoing his surgery in Belgium.
