Congress gets majority in Karnataka

Votes were cast for the Karnataka Assembly elections on 10 May. The votes were counted on May 13 and the results were declared on the same day. In a spectacular performance, the Congress has captured 135 seats in the 224-member assembly. The ruling BJP was badly defeated and had to be satisfied with only 66 seats. The performance of the third major party Janata Dal Secular in the state was the worst and it could win only 19 seats.
