The Lingayat community, which supported the party in winning Karnataka, is also demanding posts for its candidates. Of the 51 Lingayat candidates fielded by the Congress, 38 won, while the number for the BJP has come down significantly. Even though Lingayats were considered the vote bank of the saffron party, only 18 out of 68 could win.
