NAGPUR: Accusing the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) constituents — Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress — of trying to finish his political career in their two-and-half years tenure, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said, despite their best attempts, he would stay, as no one could change what was written in the destiny.
Interacting with the media on his arrival here, the Southwest Nagpur MLA termed former CM Uddhav Thackeray’s speech as “reflection of utter disappointment”.
While addressing the party workers at Goregaon on Wednesday, the Shiv Sena president said he would make sure that upcoming civic polls of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) would be Fadnavis’ last. Launching a scathing attack on BJP, he challenged home minister Amit Shah to hold the BMC and Maharashtra assembly elections in a month, if he had guts.
Countering Thackeray, Fadnavis questioned him on why he had not resigned before fostering alliance with the Congress and NCP. “You (Thackeray) contested the 2019 assembly polls with us. You even used Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pictures to garner votes. After winning the polls, you backstabbed us to join hands with rivals. Ideally, you should have resigned and called on for fresh polls if you wanted to partner with Congress-NCP. There’s no question of our resignation, as we are a legitimately elected government by the people,” he said.
Replying to a query on the ongoing raids by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Popular Front of India (PFI), the deputy CM said those were coordinated efforts, but he would only speak after getting the entire information.
The raids, also having other agencies like Enforcement Directorate (ED), were spread across ten states as a part of nationwide crackdown against PFI for allegedly aiding in terror activities and also funding them. Many PFI activists, including its Delhi chief were detained after the raids.
