NOIDA: A 40-year-old contractor, apparently upset that his dues amounting to Rs 2.6 lakh had not been cleared for years, took “revenge” by burning his client’s luxury SUV – a Mercedes-Benz – in Sadarpur village on Monday.
The incident was also caught on CCTV camera, with a video of it circulating widely on social media. It shows a man arriving in his two-wheeler, parking it in front of the SUV, pouring what appears to be fuel and setting it alight before fleeing the spot.
Police said the accused, Ranveer, set the car on fire while it was parked outside Ayush Chauhan’s house in the village. Ranveer, who belongs to Bihar and lived in Ghaziabad, was arrested on Wednesday.
“Chauhan, a builder, had filed a complaint at the Sector 39 police station on Tuesday. The complainant had hired Ranveer to install tiles at houses, and the two had been working together since 2019. It appears the accused was upset over non-payment of dues of around Rs 2.6 lakh,” said deputy commissioner of police (Noida) Harish Chander.
Chauhan has denied the charges that he hadn’t paid Ranveer, police said.
During the investigation, the DCP said, it was found that Ranveer and Chauhan had several heated arguments over the payment in the past few months.
“The accused told cops he was upset with Chauhan over the pending dues. He took revenge by setting the car ablaze,” the DCP said.
Ranveer was arrested from the village, and has been booked under Section 435 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage) of the IPC.
