HYDERABAD: Since the meeting is being organised on the birth anniversary of Devi Lal, it is not binding on the TRS to join the proposed front, a TRS MP said
Weighing the pros and cons of attending the ‘Samman Samaroh’ rally being organized by Om Prakash Chautala’s Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao is in a dilemma over the September 25 meet in Haryana. It will be attended by senior Opposition leaders, including Mulayam Singh Yadav, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, NCP’s Sharad Pawar and Prakash Singh Badal of Akali Dal.
Though the meeting is being organized in connection with the birth anniversary of former deputy PM Chaudhary Devi Lal, the effort is being viewed as a pitch to cobble up a third front with non-BJP parties. While INLD announced that KCR has been invited, the TRS brass claimed that no decision has been taken by KCR yet. The party hasn’t openly confirmed that KCR received an invite from INLD. Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has announced that he would launch a national party soon. He also announced that he would not be a party to any front and he made this point clear during his visit to Bihar last month.
KCR is reportedly deliberating with party seniors about the meeting. Some TRS leaders point out that KCR had already met many of these leaders such as Sharad Pawar, Nitish Kumar, Mamata Banerjee, Deve Gowda and other leaders on various occasions in the past two years and there is no urgent need to meet them at the anti-BJP platform.
